Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine: 1, 2, or 3 years with funding for PG qualification
There is excellent opportunity for an EM doctor who is keen to gain training in simulation and obtain a post-graduate qualification in medical education. This job is suitable for senior middle grade doctors and trainees who are motivated to broaden their experience and develop education as a sub-specialty interest.
These jobs are for Senior Clinical fellows (ST4+ equivalent) who will be based at West Middlesex Emergency Department, and for 70% of their time are expected to provide clinical cover for the department which can be self rostered or arranged with the rota co-ordinator. The remaining time will be spent organising education for nurses, doctors and medical students. You will have the opportunity to arrange external courses and lead / supervise on academic projects related to EM. You will be expected to become a simulation instructor and contribute to the FY1 / FY2 teaching programme.
In addition, we will fund a post-grad qualification in medical or clinical education. The 1 year post includes funding for the Post-Grad Certificate in Medical Education. The 3 year post includes funding for the certificate in the first year, the diploma in the second year, and the project/report in the third year, leading to the Post-Grad MSc.
We have a strong commitment to training and exam preparation in the department. In addition to the Regional Higher Speciality Trainees, you will be working with our clinical fellows who have a special interest in Ultrasound and Global Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to attend weekly SpR teaching, and will be allocated an educational consultant supervisor. Our previous junior & senior fellows have successfully managed to join the Core & Higher speciality training respectively. They have presented posters and oral poster presentations at various national and international conferences. The department has several small to medium size ongoing research projects; as a fellow you will be involved in these projects with an aim to present and achieve publications.

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.
We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.
Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.
Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
The rota is a full shift pattern providing 24 hour cover to the Emergency Department with 1:3 weekends. The shift pattern is new deal compliant with a 1A banding. The pay banding may change to comply with new working practices or regulations relating to the reduction of Junior Doctors Hours.
