Summary

A Vacancy at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.


The successful candidate will join this national service to help deliver world class urological surgical care to patients having gender affirming surgery. Candidates must be committed to the delivery of trans-inclusive care and be sensitive to the unique needs of this patient group. The successful candidate will be involved in the preoperative and postoperative care of this patient group, as well as the surgery itself. They will be expected to substantially contribute to the development of the service, and audit/research within the programme.

The post is for a full-time Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology and Gender Affirmation Surgery at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. Clinical activity will take place at Parkside Hospital. Education will take place at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust.
• Attend outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures and theatre lists to support the service
• Attendance at Gender Surgery MDT meetings
• Participation in audit and governance activities of the service
• Ensure compliance with national commissioning standards and waiting time targets
• Support subspecialisation in the department by appropriate cross referral to colleagues
• Provide advice and support to patients presenting to the Trust as emergencies with complications of gender surgery or requiring the expertise of a surgeon skilled in this field
• Contribute to the care of gender surgery inpatients
• Engage in the education of other junior doctors, nursing staff and other colleagues

Parkside Hospital, established in 1983, is situated on Wimbledon Parkside (SW19). There are eighty-two beds, four operating theatres and four procedure rooms. We have extended clinical settings on site including ‘The Lodge’ where we run the lower feminising surgery clinics and the chest wall surgery clinics.



Parkside Hospital has been commissioned by NHS England to provide gender affirmation surgery, including for lower feminising surgery and masculinising chest wall surgery. We strive to provide a high-quality patient service to all our patients within our setting.



The post is for a full-time Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology and Gender Affirmation Surgery at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. Clinical activity will take place at Parkside Hospital. Education will take place at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust.

The post-holder will be required work with the Gender Affirmation Surgery team to work closely with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will be required to participate in audit, research and management of the service.

Daytime activities (0800-1700) will be determined by the Gender Affirmation Surgery (GAS) clinical lead and will include operating theatres, outpatient clinics and inpatient duties. The post-holder will work under the guidance of the Urology consultants in the GAS team and will provide leadership and guidance to the training doctors on and ward nurses along the GAS pathways.

The post holder will work within their competence and it is expected that they will continue to develop their professional expertise in general urology by continued professional development including personal study, attendance at courses and seminars. The post holder will take part in audit and will be a constituent member of the Gender Surgery MDT. The post holder will take part in clinical governance activities within the Trust and will have an annual appraisal.

The post holder should possess a recognised medical degree and MRCS/ FRCS and will be experienced in urology, both in outpatient assessment of patients and operatively including endoscopic procedures and have a demonstrated interest in gender surgery.
