Summary
This exciting new opportunity has arisen within the Macmillan Chemotherapy Day Unit at Northwick Park Hospital. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to improving patient care through effective leadership and management, advanced clinical practice and education. Previous recent experience at band 6 or above and relevant qualifications in cancer and chemotherapy are essential
As a Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for the care, delivery and nursing management of the unit, including the supervision of staff. You will be supporting an experienced nursing team to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of specialist care to ensure that patients are cared for in a safe, caring and comfortable environment. This will include meeting their holistic needs by effectively communicating with the wider multi-disciplinary team, patients and their families.
If you are a senior registered nurse with an Oncology / Haematology background and have a passion for exceptionally high standards of patient care this could be the role for you.
Working closely with the Macmillan Trust Lead Chemotherapy Nurse you will help shape this specialist nursing service making a significant contribution to the delivery of high quality, specialist care for cancer patients, supervising and developing junior staff.
Clinical
· Places quality at the heart of practice by delivering evidence based individualised patient care according to patient’s changing health care needs, through holistic needs assessment, (HNA).
· Uses specialist knowledge and provides specialist advice to ensure effective continuity of care delivery to patients.
· Ensure all patients have a plan of care that has been discussed with them.
· Deliver evidence-based care and interventions that are timely, and patient centred.
· Be competent in all aspects of venous access
· To manage the complications associated with the administration of chemotherapy e.g. extravasation and chemotherapy spillages
· Assesses people’s information needs and provides relevant information to meet those needs.
· To communicate very sensitive condition related information to patients, relatives and carers requiring high levels of empathy and reassurance. This includes highly complex information that needs to be conveyed in an appropriate form considering the background, culture and understanding of the individuals involved.
· Ensures the provision of care is in accordance with London Northwest Healthcare NHS Trust’s polices & procedures.
· Ensure patient privacy and dignity maintained at all times
