Summary
Outpatients at the LGH covers 5 areas. Outpatients 1, 2, 3, 4 and Neurology. To run all areas safely we require a mix of RN’s, HCSW & CSW. Logistically, being split over 5 areas we need a large team to ensure safety of all patients in the departments. Due to the areas we cover it is essential you hold excellent communication skills, can work independently as well as part of a team and demonstrate excellent patient care.
As an RN in Outpatients you will be required to work independently as well as part of the team. RN's in Outpatients would be required to assist with maintaining a safe environment, ensure the smooth running of clinics, and perform patient observations, not limited to, but include the following: MUST scores, BMI, height, weight, urinalysis, ECS's, blood pressures, flow rates and blood glucoses monitoring.
We also have patients that may require personal care or pressure area care, and as an RN on Outpatients you would be expected to support patients with this. Staff are expected to move and handle stretcher/wheelchair users safely, and move large sets of notes regularly, they may also be on their feet for long periods of time due to the nature of the clinics we run.
RN's in Outpatients support the management team by taking the Nurse in Charge role and will be trained to complete appraisals for the HCSW/CSW's in the team. As an RN in Outpatients you will also be expected to maintain safety checks on all equipment and take on link roles such as Infection Prevention, Falls, Nutrition etc and cascade this information to the team.
An RN in Outpatients would also be expected to support with any medication required or prescriptions needed. They would also be expected to support in emergency situations.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
