About the Employer:

I am both the employer and person in receipt of a direct payment. I am registered blind however live with my 5 year old son independently. I am registered blind however have some slight vision which enables me to manage most day to day living without support. I have been offered 8 hours per week to recruit a PA , who will support me with general tasks that will improve my daily life and enable me to access social activities. Due to my vision impairment I can be prone to accidents, trips and falls when out and about and in unfamiliar places. I am seeking a PA to assist me with managing correspondence and filling in forms, assisting me to go food shopping and to attend social activities such as going to football matches on occasion at Sunderland. Occasional support with things around the home such as DIY, where I may struggle and gardening. My son may be present during some sessions so I am seeking someone who has or is willing to undertake a DBS check. I'm looking for someone with a calm and caring nature, with a good sense of humour and motivated and committed to wanting to make a difference

About the Role:

Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
• Support with food shopping.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
• Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
• Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
• Support with managing paperwork & correspondence.
• Support with gardening.


The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).


Transport Requirement:

Car driver and car owner – must have business insurance.

• Previous caring experience is not essential, however you should have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals.

• Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
• Have a lively personality.

Hours per week: 8 hrs per week to be delivered flexibly and agreed sessions week on week between employer and PA. To be discussed at interview
