About the team - Creative Industries & AI

The creative industries are worth £124bn to the economy and provide 2.4m jobs. Growth is the number one mission of the government and the creative industries have been identified as one of the Industrial Strategy’s eight growth-driving sectors, with the Creative Industries Sector Plan published in June 2025.

The Creative Industries & AI Directorate aims to support and promote growth in the creative industries across the country, and to maximise the benefits these sectors bring. The Directorate comprises of two policy teams working across Creative Industries and Artificial Intelligence, as well as being supported by a team of analysts.

The Creative Industries team includes sector-focused teams, covering film/high-end TV, video games, music, design, fashion, architecture and crafts. The team also manages cross-cutting priorities, in particular, skills, innovation and access to finance, and coordination of Sector Plan delivery.

The AI team is focused on ensuring the UK has a copyright regime that supports rights holders in licensing their work whilst allowing AI developers to benefit from creative material. The team is also developing a Creative Content Exchange to be a trusted marketplace for selling, buying, licensing, and enabling permitted access to digitised cultural and creative assets.

About the team - Corporate Strategy

The Corporate Strategy directorate sits at the heart of the department providing vital strategic, cross-cutting functions which are central to the effectiveness and impact of DCMS. The directorate:

  • Sets the strategic direction of the department in its policy and delivery across DCMS’ interests and leads and coordinates preparations for fiscal events such as the Budget.
  • Sets DCMS’s relationship with its 42 public bodies including running processes to appoint non-executive directors to their boards
  • Recognises outstanding achievements in the arts and culture, media, sports and voluntary sectors through the coordination of DCMS nominations for the Honours and Awards system
  • Supports the delivery of the Secretary of State’s priorities and the functioning of Ministerial and senior officials’ offices through Private Office
  • Provides cross-cutting expertise and support across the department including on areas such as devolution, place-based policies and sustainability.

This role provides a chance to gain a real insight into the depth and breadth of the department’s work, in an environment which is fast-paced, exciting, rewarding and thrives on the people and relationships between them.

We are recruiting two Executive Assistants to provide day to day support for Directors and Deputy Directors (DDs). This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the DDs and Directors in the Creative Industries & Artificial Intelligence and Corporate Strategy directorates. This will include diary and inbox management, and ensuring Senior Civil Servants (SCS) have the information needed to prepare for meetings. These Are interesting and wide ranging roles, where you will be expected to be flexible to support the SCS and wider directorate. The roles offers the opportunity for significant interaction with senior leaders and external stakeholders. The successful candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of managing a varied workload, prioritising effectively and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the Directors or DDs’ diary, ensuring best use of their time. Ensuring the diary reflects their priorities, resolving conflicts in scheduling and rearranging diaries, often at short notice.
  • Supporting the Directors or DDs’ inbox management, and coordinating and prioritising work autonomously. Setting up and managing knowledge information systems in line with DCMS policies.
  • Providing administrative, logistical, and business support to the Directors or DDs’, including organising agendas for meetings, arranging travel, accommodation and managing expenses and finance functions such as invoicing.
  • Providing a professional service to all external and internal stakeholders through all forms of communication.
  • Facilitating access for visitors, including arranging security passes and accompanying visitors.
