A JIB Approved Electrician is a qualified professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems in accordance with industry standards and regulations. This role requires advanced technical competence, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team on commercial, industrial, or domestic projects.
Main duties include installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in line with BS7671 Wiring Regulations and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. The JIB Approved Electrician will interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate installation and compliance with relevant standards. They will also conduct electrical inspection and testing, completing the necessary certification and documentation. Diagnosing faults and carrying out remedial work efficiently is a key responsibility. Additionally, the electrician must ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with JIB National Working Rules and site-specific health and safety protocols. The role also involves liaising with clients, site managers, and other trades to coordinate work schedules and resolve any issues. Mentoring apprentices and junior electricians, where applicable, is also part of the role.
To qualify as a JIB Approved Electrician, the following qualifications and training are required: the completion of a recognised apprenticeship, achievement of a Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services or an equivalent qualification, and successful completion of the AM2. Candidates must have a minimum of two years' post-qualification experience as an Installation Electrician, an up-to-date qualification in the latest edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671), and be an ECS Gold Card holder (Registered Electrician status preferred).
