Summary

Job Description

The Principal Teacher - Equity, Excellence and Wellbeing remit is to work to ensure that our young people and families are provided with all possible supports that will assist them to fully access their educational opportunities. Specifically providing targeted support for low-income families and for young people in receipt of free school meals. The role is extremely varied, and includes the provision of information, interventions and resources to reduce the impact of economic barriers to decrease the cost of the school day as well as providing any support that may help to close the poverty related attainment gap. The role has a specific focus on the areas of literacy, numeracy and wellbeing.

Fixed Term for a period not exceeding 02 July 2026.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salary for this post will be in accordance with SNCT agreements. Applicants must be or eligible to be fully GTC Scotland registered. If you qualified as a Teacher out with Scotland, please visit GTCS – Qualified Outside Scotland and review the GTCS FAQs for more information around obtaining registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland.

Please note that the grade for this position may be subject to change. Promoted Teaching Posts that meet the criteria will be resized on an annual basis, in line with the SNCT Handbook. Any grade change will be effective from 1st August each year.
