Summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Front of House team as Casual Duty Managers at South Street Arts Centre, part of Reading Arts and Venues. South Street is a dynamic, artistically led venue hosting some of the best small-scale touring work from the UK and further afield. We are looking for dynamic and committed individuals to join our small team as a Casual Duty Manager to contribute to the smooth running of our shows and events.

About the role
We are looking for a Casual Duty Manager to create a warm and welcoming environment for customers & visiting artists whilst underpinning that with a methodical and professional approach to the delivery of our events.

We pride ourselves on our customer service, so require someone with a passion for working with the public & motivating their team to deliver a high-quality service.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across technical, box office, and catering to make sure every event is delivered to the highest standard.

The working hours will be different every week, as our programme fluctuates from week to week, but would be almost exclusively evenings and weekends when the work is available.

We’re looking for someone with:
• Experience in event or venue management, ideally in an arts or entertainment setting
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
• A commitment to high standards of customer service
• Confidence in handling health & safety responsibilities and emergency situations
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required

About you:
We’re looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who is comfortable dealing with a wide range of people. You will need to lead a small team of casual staff and deal directly with a wide spectrum of the general public. You will need to be able to use IT for documentation and communication.

Specific requirements:
• Experience of working in customer service environment, preferably in an arts venue
• Experience of managing staff
• A knowledge of Health & Safety practice
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to use IT to a good standard
• Able to work evenings and weekends
