Summary

 To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children in the
setting.
 To safeguard and promote the welfare of children in the setting.
 To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual
children can play, develop and learn.
 To build and maintain strong partnership working with parents to enable children’s needs to be
met.
Main duties and responsibilities:
 Be reliable and punctual, maintaining staffing ratios at all times.
 Assist in the provision of a high quality preschool, that adheres to EYFS and OFSTED
requirements through planning, effective room organisation and provision of Early Years
Resources, to develop a high quality play environment both indoors and outdoors which meets
each child’s individual needs, in accordance with the areas of learning and development, and
characteristics of effective learning.
 Ensure the provision of a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment to meet the needs of
individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, neurodiversity, family cultures and
medical histories.
 Meet the physical needs of children by encouraging good standards of personal hygiene, whilst
promoting independence.
 Ensure that settling in and transitions are well managed for all children, that they are
communicated to parents, carers and colleagues.
 Practice positive behaviour management techniques.
 Develop genuine bonds with your key children and contribute to observations and the
assessment of their learning and development. Maintain up to date records of your key
children’s development and learning journeys and share with parents, carers and other key
adults in the children’s lives.
 Develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate
day-to-day caring and early learning needs.
 Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe
running of the setting.
 Safeguard and promote the welfare of children in the setting and promptly report to
supervisor/manager any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment.
 Appropriately maintain the confidentiality of personal data relating to children, their families,
staff and visitors to New Ark.
 Co-operate and work effectively with colleagues to promote positive team working and
contribute to an inclusive, non-discriminatory, engaging, empowering and supportive work
environment.
 Be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where
needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc.
 Ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
 Act as a positive role model and represent the setting in a positive and professional manner
both during working hours and outside of working hours.
 Communicate effectively, sharing information, participating in meetings, inductions and staff
supervisions.
 Be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. mandatory training, staff meetings,
fundraising events, etc
