Summary

Functional Skills Tutor - Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre

Campsfield House is due to open soon as the UK's first all-electric Immigration Removal Centre, providing custody services, welfare, regime and recreational activities. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring colleagues to join our team.

Job objectives and responsibilities

· To actively promote and design educational activities that deliver Employability Skills, vocational courses, and business start-up courses, including online learning and assessment processes.

· These initiatives are intended to meet the needs of residents and adhere to contractual requirements while enabling them to earn external qualifications.

· This tutor will conduct workshops focused on the skills they excel in, ensuring they address the needs of the residents and fulfill the necessary contractual obligations.

· To provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive and productive environment for residents that encourages them to attend and enables them to learn and develop their skills

Main duties

· Actively promote employability and vocational skills courses throughout the Centre including Maths, English. Explain the available opportunities and the relevance of these skills as part of the Preparation for Release programme to ensure that residents are well-informed and that there is optimal uptake.

· Assess the ESOL and skills level of learners who come into the classroom ensuring that they have sufficient language skills to enrol in the courses offered, making adaptations wherever possible to overcome barriers to learning.

· Develop and deliver core modular courses and, as appropriate, advanced teaching modules and the learning programme, supporting and encouraging all learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives with relevant and interesting teaching.

· Deliver the OCN Vocational Skills programme maintaining standards of delivery and quality assurance.

· Provide a short induction to residents, welcoming them to the classroom to encourage their participation and ensure that the activities provided is relevant and interesting

· Work proactively with staff and residents to provide artistic support for cultural events within the Centre

· Develop, promote and deliver a range of workshops enabling residents to gain useful transferable skills

· Develop, promote and deliver a range of activities, competitions, events and projects supporting and encouraging all learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives such as CV writing and interview skills

· Create and maintain a safe, secure, positive and friendly learning environment where residents feel welcomed and respected.

· Monitor attendance, retention and achievement figures and assist in the development of strategies and procedures and make improvements to maximise these.

· Ensure the completion of all documentation and administration in line with company policies and any external agency requirements so that accurate, compliant data is maintained and provided.

· Use all resources effectively to ensure quality of service and value for money.

· Manage the learning environment ensuring maintenance and security of tools and equipment at all times to relevant standards.

· Advise on equipment and purchases necessary to meet contractual requirements and best practice within education.

· Support Regimes & Activities more widely, covering other areas as required, to ensure continuity of service.

· Undertake further duties to support Regimes & Activities and the delivery of relevant vocational courses as required.

Person Specification

Essential

· An appropriate teaching qualification and experience is required.

· In-depth knowledge of vocational skills in their area of specialism

· Previous teaching experience within a related subject is required

Desirable

· Experience of delivering relevant creative skills workshops/training

· Experience within the custodial setting

· Experience of working with ESOL learners would be advantageous and a patient and understanding attitude to the language problems faced by learners essential.

You must be eligible for CTC clearance.You must hold a valid British passport or an EU passport with a share code. Additionally, you must have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years, without any extended trips overseas. Applicants must have no criminal convictions and must not be subject to any ongoing police investigations.
