A vacancy has arisen for a dynamic, creative, forward-thinking and skilled teacher of Maths, who has a proven track record in inspiring interest and raising attainment in this area of the curriculum. The vacancy spans two secondary schools - Musselburgh Grammar School (Mon-Weds) and Knox Academy (Thurs-Fri) - thus making a full-time, 35h position. Musselburgh Grammar School will accept applications from candidates wishing to work a part-time pattern only. Please state your preferred working pattern in your application.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be suitably qualified and possess a wide interest in all aspects of education
  • Have a sound knowledge of current national/local curricular developments, and learning and teaching theory and practice
  • Deliver consistently high quality learning, teaching and assessment through inclusive pedagogical approaches
  • Exhibit the interpersonal skills required to play a full part in safeguarding and nurturing young people, offering the right balance of challenge and support
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning, with a focus on improving outcomes for young people

Musselburgh Grammar School is a comprehensive school with approximately 800 pupils ranging from 12 to 18, and has over 60 staff in total. Our vision is ‘Striving for Excellence – Caring for All.’ Our pupil-centred approach and ambition for young people is also reflected in our school values of Honesty, Determination and Respect. Continuing to improve attainment and achievement is our key objective, along with ensuring that our young people develop all the skills required for a positive and successful life after school.

The successful applicant will join our committed STEM Mathematics and Numeracy faculty in making a real difference in closing the attainment gap.

Knox Academy is a comprehensive school situated in Haddington in East Lothian, with a school roll of approx. 925. Job Details

Teaching relevant subject through S1-S6.

Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories-

Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
Developing the school curriculum
Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school

Registered with GTCS as a teacher of relevant subject

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
