About the opportunity

Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) offer new entrants to the labour market the chance of paid employment combined with the opportunity to do training relevant to the occupational area. They include the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications that help kick-start a career without having to study full-time. New entrants include school and college leavers, those with no previous work experience and/or vocational qualifications.

You will be under the direct supervision of a supervisor, who will be responsible for your on-job training and you will be in regular contact with the Modern Apprentice team in the Council in reference to your progress towards your MA qualification. Your learning will be supervised by an MA assessor.

The apprenticeships will last for 2 years and are an excellent chance to develop administrative and team working skills to provide experience when applying for future positions.

What you'll be doing

You will be involved in the Council's Modern Apprenticeship Scheme and will be supervised to undertake the following tasks:

  • Production and handling of documents
  • Following processes and procedures
  • Maintaining efficient Electronic and Manual Filing systems
  • Providing a service to customers.
  • Using ICT to complete tasks
  • Contributing to apprentice forums and participate in case-studies
  • Other duties as required

What we're looking for

  • A good standard of education: National 4 or 5s or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm in working in an office environment/business administration.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with office IT systems/software.

The position is subject to Basic Disclose check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/work-us/behaviours" target="_blank">Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Happy to talk flexible working.
