Summary
DUTIES
Support and promote the Residents individuality, and rights
1. Support the Team Leader/Senior in Charge when new residents are admitted
2. Assist with the checking and listing of all items brought into the home by the resident,
3. Respect the privacy and dignity of residents, ensuring their right to independence and choke.
4. Knowing and maintaining Confidentiality,
Ensure the optimum quality of Care is Delivered to the Residents
1. Ensure a high standard of care to each resident.
2. To arrive ten minutes before duty to ensure participation in Handover
3. Answering call bells or request for assistance promptly
4. Attend all Trainings when directed
5. Assist the Residents to achieve emotional comfort/stimulation
6. Assist Residents to relieve any pain or discomfort
7. Ensure that Residents are provided with an environment that allows them to feel safe and is conducive to their well-being.
Assist Residents to Maintain their Nutritional Status
1. Assist residents who require support with their food/drink intake as detailed in their care plan, using appropriate utensils, and ensuring their dignity at all times,
2. Monitoring the resident's food/drink intake, as directed by the Team Leader/Senior & record daily in Residents food & fluid charts.
3. Reporting to the Team Leader/Senior in charge any resident's reluctance to eat or drink
4. To prepare and assist in the serving of the Residents supper as & when required.
Assist Residents with personal hygiene and appearance,
1. Assisting with bathing or showering in bathrooms or Shower room, as per residents’ care plan
2. Assisting residents, with washing in bedrooms per residents’ care plans, promoting resident’s independence with maintaining their personal hygiene.
3. Support residents with oral care, assisting with the cleaning of dentures throughout the day when required & reporting to the Team Leader/Senior in charge should assistance be required with oral care from a Dentist.
4. Assist male residents with shaving when training has been undertaken.
5. Giving and removing urinals and bedpans and putting residents on commodes safely and comfortably. If required, reporting and measuring on contents as directed by the Team Leader/Senior in charge
6. Assisting Clients to dress, ensuring choice, and dignity.
Assist Residents to maintain and improve mobility
Assist Resident to use aids provided as detailed in their care plan & report to Team Leader/Senior in charge should Residents be showing signs in a decline of mobility so that assessments such as OT or falls clinic can be arranged.
2. Encourage residents to mobilize daily to maintain their level of independence
3. Assist residents to access the grounds & to partake in trips out whilst maintaining their safety & well-being at all times.
Assist Residents to maintain physical comfort.
1. Assist the residents to get out of bed as per care plan
2. Assisting residents by using specialist equipment such as hoists & specialist chairs as detailed in their care plans ensuring they are made comfortable and always positioned correctly.
3. Monitor skin for any signs of pressure & document all changes daily in daily care notes.
4. Assist the Team Leader/Senior in charge regarding any treatment of pressure areas.
Assist Residents with recreational activities
1. Support Residents to get ready for outings with families, or visits to day centres,
2. Participate and organise activities with the clients.
3. Assist Residents to participate in craft activities
4. Support clients to get ready for in house entertainments,
Assist in the care of a deceased/dying person
1. Assist with the performance of last wishes/requests & Supporting Residents & Families with end-of-life care
2. Provide support and comfort to the deceased residents, relatives/friends.
Care Staff will also:
If required answer the phone, politely and efficiently remembering to maintain confidentiality & take clear messages to be passed on to those who are unavailable.
Ensure adherence to Eqvitus’s policies and procedures, Following the Health and Safety Executive legislations for Health and Safety at work, COSHH. (Control of substances Hazardous to Health), RIDDOR (The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences regulation 1986)
Report immediately any faulty appliance, damaged furniture or equipment and/or potential Hazards to
The Manager, Deputy Manager or Team Leader/Senior in charge.
To attend all staff meetings. And mandatory training as directed by the Manager and ensure that all Notices to staff displayed on notice boards etc, are read. Time to attend Mandatory Training will be paid for, but Travelling cost will not be paid.
Always maintain confidentiality,
Care Assistance will also be required to undertake non-nursing duties as directed by the Manager/ Deputy or Team Leader/Senior in charge, ensuring the cleanliness or orderliness of the Home,
• At all times are polite and welcoming to visitors to the Home, offering refreshments when they arrive, ensure chairs are made available to them, and their privacy during their visit is maintained.
• Arrange residents' flowers as and when required
• Undertake the washing and disinfecting of beds, bed tables when required,
• Washing bedpans urinals, bowls and commodes after each use.
• Undertake Laundry duties as identified in the daily allocation
• Undertake light cleaning duties as directed by the Team Leader/Senior in charge
• Ensure that the homes uniform policy is strictly always adhered to.
Learning and Development
Keep up to date with best practice as part of an ongoing personal development plan,
Undertake any training courses that are determined by the organisation and legislative requirements
Act as a mentor for any new staff as requested by the Home Manager.
