Summary
Clinical Duties Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care. To independently undertake clinical assessments, diagnose, treat, advise and discharge patients with a wide range of minor injuries and/or illnesses. Order, undertake and interpret diagnostic tests including x-rays. Ensure effective discharge planning and health education/ promotion. Signpost to other health services according to clinical need. Ensure effective communication and liaison with multidisciplinary teams across Primary and Secondary Care. Ensure accurate and systematic documentation of all clinical care provided given. Establish and maintain effective communication with nursing, medical and other healthcare care professionals to provide optimum patient care. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues. Participate in audit, taking action to address improvements required. Have a good knowledge of safe guarding policies in relation to both children and adults to ensure identification of vulnerable patients. Work as part of a team to work flexibly and to help cover absence of any member of the team in agreement with the Clinical Lead ENP. Managerial Responsibilities Participate in the improvement of UTC performance for non-admitted pathway. Have good working understanding of national targets i.e. 4-hour wait / UTC KPIs. Autonomously prioritise and manage own work load. Monitor own performance and explore other options to increase performance. Take appropriate action in managing incidents relating to violence/aggression. Take appropriate action in dealing with situations that may result in a disciplinary situation. Participate in the management and development of the UTC service. Assist and participate in handling of complaints, alongside the Service Manager and Clinical Lead ENP. Adopt an approach of continual service improvement Education/Research Participate in teaching, mentorship and assessing for ENP/ECP, pre and post-registration and paramedic students, junior doctors and GP trainees. Enable staff to develop and learn from their practice. Participate in training for all members of the multidisciplinary team. Keep up to date with current practice and clinical developments. Ensure mandatory training is up to date. Engage in research and audit within the department. Participate in peer group, medical and other health professionals teaching. Professional Duties Adhere to the Health and Care Professions Council, Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics (SCPE). Adhere to the NMC Council, Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics (SCPE). Be proactive in maintaining standards in the UTC. To represent the department within the hospital and elsewhere as requested. Attend court hearings as required for the purpose of giving evidence. Demonstrate effective use of information technology in relation to clinical practice. To ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff and to report all incidents.
