Summary
This is a substantive full time post, to be based at the Burnley General Hospital site. TheGeneral Neurodevelopmental and specialist clinics are undertaken in dedicated outpatient clinics. Clinical activities will be delivered from sites across the East Lancashire Hospital Trust footprint which coverRoyal Blackburn, Burnley General, Clitheroe Community Hospital, Rossendale, Blackburn with Darwen Children’s Centres (Shadsworth and Livesey) and The Acorn Centre in Accrington, and Special School Settings.
The post holder will undertake outpatient clinics to undertake medical assessment and medical management of a range of problems including:
· Developmental problems diagnostic assessment for pre-school children
· Neurodisability (Including Cerebral Palsy, Tone Management and Epilepsy)
· Learning Disability (Aetiological investigation of moderate – severe Learning Disability)
· Dyspraxia
· Autistic Spectrum Disorders
· Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD)
· Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
· Medical management of complex neurological or genetic conditions (in association with other specialist services)
The Trust’s catchment area is co-terminus with the local districts of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. Together, these localities represent the area known as “Pennine Lancashire”. Each of the locality districts contains substantial rural areas including parts of the West Pennine Moors, the Ribble Valley, the Forest of Bowland,Gisburn Forest and Pendle Hill; some of the most outstandingly beautiful countryside in Northern England. The local town of Whalley has been voted one of the top 50 places to live in the UK.
The district is well served by road and rail and is within reach of the Universities of Manchester, Lancaster, Liverpool and Leeds, including UCLan with which ELHT has forged strong links. As well as being close to many urban centres, Blackburn and Burnley are also within easy distance of the Lancashire Coast, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics
The Directorate provides a comprehensive Community Child Health Paediatric service for children under 16 and also to some Young People 16-18 in specific situations.
The service is delivered via an Integrated Clinical Team, Multidisciplinary Model with Medical Consultants, Allied Health Professionals (Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy) and Specialist Practitioners.
