Reports To: Director of Business Development (AKG (UK) EMPLOYMENT LTD)
Roles Reporting to this Position: Business Development Manager
Primary Objective: As the Head of Bidding, you will be responsible for delivering AKG’s Growth Strategy, securing new business through the development and execution of effective bidding strategies. You will oversee the end-to-end bidding process from identifying opportunities and assessing requirements to crafting compelling proposals and winning contracts.

• Director for Business Development AKG (UK) EMPLOYMENT LTD and peers within the UK Growth Team
• Operational teams delivering existing services with local partners
• Marketing and Communications and Partnership teams supporting growth
• Relevant contacts within the wider AKG group of companies
External
• Commercial teams within commissioners, including but not limited to: Local Authorities, DWP, NHS, MoJ etc.
• Relationships with other private/third sector providers
• Peers within wider provider network to enable collaboration and joint working on new opportunities
Key Responsibilities
1. Growth Strategy
• To support the development and implementation of the growth strategy in agreed key markets (e.g. employment, health, skills, justice) commissioning through identifying, qualifying and leading bidding activity for commercial opportunities.
• Develop and refine bid-specific win strategies aligned with the organisation's strategic growth objectives and wider market dynamics.
• Work with the growth team to conduct thorough analyses of bid opportunities, including risk assessment and competitive positioning and undertake lesson learns process, implementing key findings to ensure a continual improvement approach to bidding.
2. Bid Management:
• Lead the end-to-end bid process, ensuring timely submission of high-quality, compelling bids against the bid plan.
• Work with the Business Development Director to develop compelling win themes.
• Manage and maintain the central and Autogen bid libraries, sharing knowledge across the AKG International group as required.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather relevant performance and delivery data and tailor submissions to meet commissioner needs.
• Review and edit bid content for clarity, consistency, and compliance with requirements.
• Work with BD colleagues to develop, refine and manage business development processes, ensuring appropriate governance is maintained.
3. Relationship Building:
• Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders including commissioners, AKG companies, local partners, and subcontractors, promoting AKG’s values, capabilities and experience to support strategic growth objectives.
• Work closely with Head of Strategic Partnerships to identify required partnerships and delivery solutions to secure business wins from the pipeline opportunities.
• Work with external contractors supporting the completion of bid submissions.
• Manage relationships with the growth team and wider internal stakeholders across the business to support the development of high-quality bids.
4. Team Leadership:
• Line manage the Business Development Manager, providing coaching and development support.
• Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the bid team.
5. Market Intelligence:
• Monitor industry trends, competitor and stakeholder activities to inform bid strategies.
• Identify emerging opportunities and potential risks, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
• 6. Performance Tracking:
• Establish performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of bidding efforts.
• Analyse win/loss data to identify areas for improvement and implement improvement actions as needed.
Essential/Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• Proven experience in an aligned business development environment with success at winning new business.
• Experience in managing end-to-end public-sector bidding processes in the organisation’s core markets (employment, health, skills, justice).
• Experience of managing multiple bids simultaneously and managing competing priorities.
• Ability to write / develop compelling bidding materials.
• Ability to quality assure bids to drive high standards for every submission.
• Ability to understand commercial bid strategy and basic commercial modelling.
• Experience of using CRM tools to manage bid processes.
• Strategic thinker.
• Understands Government policy and funding cycles within the markets in focus.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to deliver objectives whilst demonstrating a strong sense of integrity.
• Passion for business growth, performance and market penetration.
