We are looking for a Nursery Housekeeper & Cook/ Food Champion to join our BRAND-NEW nursery settings in Gerrards Cross ( 100 childcare places)
Nursery opening hours: 7:30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
- Are you passionate about feeding little minds and tummies? We’re on the lookout for a Food Champion to join our nursery team — someone who sees the kitchen as a place where care, creativity, and community come together.
- Do you take pride in keeping things clean, calm, and cared for? We’re looking for a Part-Time Housekeeper to help keep our nursery sparkling, safe, and welcoming for the little ones who play, learn, and grow with us every day.
Position: Nursery Housekeeper & Cook/Food Champion
Location: Gerrards Cross
Hours: 40 hrs
Salary: £12.25 - £13.00 per hour

As a Food Champion in our nursery, you’ll:
- Serve delicious, balanced meals that children love and parents trust
- Plan menus and manage food orders, staying within budget while meeting dietary needs
- Maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic kitchen, always meeting food hygiene and health & safety standards
- Get involved in baking and food-based activities with the children, helping them learn through play
As a Nursery Housekeeper, you’ll:
- Keep playrooms, bathrooms, and shared areas clean and hygienic, ready for busy little explorers
- Handle laundry and linen changes to ensure everything is fresh, tidy, and cosy
- Support the team with daily cleaning routines, helping maintain our high standards of care
- Help us create a warm, home-from-home environment where children feel safe and nurtured
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a great eye for detail and a genuine pride in their work
- Can work independently but is also happy to be part of a team
- Understands (or is willing to learn) basic health & safety and hygiene procedures
- Brings a positive attitude and a caring approach to everything they do
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine love for working in an environment with children
- Understands the importance of nutrition in early years
- Can plan ahead, stay organised, and work independently
- Holds (or is willing to work towards) a Food Hygiene qualification
- Responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation in all areas; including kitchen, dining spaces and housekeeping areas
- Handle laundry duties, including washing, drying and correct storage of all laundry
- Ensuring effective communication with colleagues and management regarding daily cleaning schedules, supply needs and any maintenance issues
- Work closely with nursery staff to ensure safe mealtimes practices and educate the team on allergen awareness when needed
Main duties and responsibilities as Food Champion:
- To serve nutritionally balanced meals appropriate for under-fives in accordance with the nursery’s nutritional guidance for the under-fives.
- To maintain a safe, clean, and healthy kitchen environment
- To regulate kitchen stock control and collate food purchasing orders as appropriate.
- To maintain accurate records regarding temperature controls etc.
- To meet health and safety and environmental health requirements at all times.
- To liaise with nursery management regarding children’s specific dietary requirements.
- To have a full knowledge of the dietary requirements of children within the setting
- To keep up to date with current good practice. To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children
- To deliver food to the individual rooms on time
- To be aware of the nursery’s policies and procedures and ensure these are adhered to
- To be professional and a good role model to the children and other colleagues, at all times
- To work flexibly as part of the larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required, to ensure the smooth running of the nursery
- To respect and value all colleagues, children, and parents, encouraging a positive and diverse working environment

Main Duties of a Nursery Housekeeper
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the nursery, including playrooms, sleep rooms, bathrooms, corridors, and staff areas.
- Carry out daily, weekly, and deep cleaning routines as outlined in the nursery’s cleaning schedule.
- Clean and sanitise toilets, potties, nappy-changing areas, and sinks regularly and thoroughly.
- Ensure laundry is washed, dried, folded, and stored appropriately, including bedding, towels, cloths, and spare clothing.
- Change cot sheets and sleep mats as required, maintaining a high standard of hygiene in sleep areas.
- Restock cleaning supplies and notify the manager when additional items are needed.
- Follow COSHH and Health & Safety guidelines at all times when handling cleaning products.
- Safely store cleaning materials and equipment, ensuring they are not accessible to children.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste safely and hygienically.
- Report any maintenance or health & safety concerns to the Nursery Manager or appropriate team member.
- Support with occasional kitchen or snack prep assistance.
- Work collaboratively with the nursery team to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children, colleagues, and families.
