Summary
Provide visible clinical leadership within the clinical areas/across the Trust exhibiting high standards of clinical care and professional standards and behaviour at all times. Undertake monthly/weekly (as appropriate) matron ward rounds to monitor standards of care using agreed audit tools and take action where standards are not being met. Ensure that infection prevention and control is a key priority for all areas and that all related policies are implemented, adhered to and monitored. Using key performance indicators demonstrate high standards of care within areas of responsibility, ensuring necessary actions are planned, monitored and evaluated. Work closely with colleagues from Hotel Services to ensure standards of cleanliness utilising the NHS Clean Hospitals programme are implemented and monitored. Ensure that patient care is evidence based, monitored and evaluated, instituting appropriate improvement when required. Be a role model for others to emulate, working alongside colleagues Take appropriate steps to ensure that a safe environment is maintained for patients and staff and visitors within the area of responsibility. Ensure that all untoward incidents and near misses are reported by staff within the area of responsibility in accordance with the Trust policy, and that appropriate mechanisms are put in place to investigate serious clinical incidents under the direction and guidance of the Risk Management Department, following which appropriate action plans are developed and monitored, and lessons are learned and disseminated. Endeavour to ensure that staffing levels are maintained that ensure patient safety, and any concerns are brought to the attention of the Head of Nursing. Ensure that all Trust policies and procedures are implemented within the area of responsibility, followed by all staff and regularly audited. Promote a research culture which enables staff to take a questioning approach to their practice and support nursing research. Support the development of a learning culture and ensure appropriate nursing audit mechanisms are in place.
