Summary

We are looking for a Photo Editor to join the Prime Minister’s digital team at 10 Downing Street. This is a unique opportunity to work on best-in-class photography that informs, inspires, and connects with millions of people across the UK.

Working closely with the Chief Photographer and Senior Photographer, you will review, edit and publish images that drive forward the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change narrative through high-impact visual storytelling. You will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the photo team, ensuring photos are edited, captioned, uploaded, and delivered quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.

You will be responsible for managing photo management systems, applying accurate metadata and captions to a professional standard, and ensuring that all photo output meets the highest creative and editorial standards. You will be highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working with senior leaders and stakeholders, providing sound judgement and support to the photographers to help them deliver their best work. You will ensure that the photos are archived correctly and efficiently.

  • Review and select high-quality‑ images from live shoots and visits, often working to tight deadlines.
  • Edit, crop, colour correct‑ and retouch images to meet technical, brand, and accessibility standards.
  • Prepare imagery for fast upload and release across the Prime Minister’s and No.10’s channels.
  • Apply accurate captions, metadata, and permissions, maintaining a high standard of detail.
  • Manage and maintain image libraries and content management systems, including archiving.
  • Work with photographers and content teams to select the strongest visuals for social and campaign use.
  • Print images to the highest quality standards and ensure timely distribution of photos to stakeholders.
  • Support the day-to-day‑ coordination of the photo team, helping them prioritise and deliver under pressure.
  • Liaise with senior political stakeholders to ensure images are cleared and ready for publication.
  • Keep up to date with visual trends, editing best practice, and emerging digital opportunities.
  • Manage the archiving of the photos, across our photo management systems.
