Summary

The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

This role sits within the Home Office Health, Safety and Fire Management Team (HSFT). The team provides professional health and safety policy, guidance, advice, expertise and support to approximately 51,000 Home Office staff based around the globe. The variety of roles in the Home Office carrying differing risk profiles requires an ability to think innovatively and test normal understanding of risk and compliance.

As a health and safety auditor, you will work with senior management and colleagues within the Health, Safety and Fire Team to manage and deliver health and safety audits.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Work with relevant stakeholders to lead development of a 3 lines of defence audit programme.
• Support Directorate and Business Units to deliver first line defence audits.
• Plan and conduct second line defence audits across the organisation.
• Be the point of contact and represent the HSFT with any third line audits conducted by external bodies e.g. Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA).
• Be responsible for delivering statutory compliance audits of Home Office buildings and assets regarding health and safety legislation such as asbestos, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), legionella etc.
• Develop robust actions from audit recommendations and record and track these escalating non completion of actions to HSFT Senior Management Team (SMT) where necessary.
• Feedback findings of audits to HSFT SMT and where required draft papers and present findings at appropriate Board meetings.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.

Training

Hold or be willing to undertake ISO 45001 Lead Auditor training within first 6 months of appointment.

Travel

Expectations that individuals will travel to other Home Office sites as required.
