JOB DESCRIPTION PRINCIPAL CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST Job Title: Principal Clinical Psychologist Pay Band: £74,300 (pro rata 0.6 WTE) Hours of work: 22.5 per week (days to be determined) Base: The Grange, Norwich Managerially and professionally accountable to: Clinical Director Job Summary/Job Purpose: To take lead responsibility for clinical decisions which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options, including where expert opinions may differ. To provide a highly specialised clinical psychology service to clients of the organisation, providing specialised psychological assessment and therapy to clients. To work autonomously in accordance with The British Psychological Society Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles and Guidelines 2004, and Health and Care Professions Council. To have delegated responsibility, in consultation with the Clinical Director, for the professional leadership, planning, systematic provision and review of assessment and therapeutic services offered by Help for Psychology. To take responsibility for the professional leadership and management of clinical psychologists, within Help for Psychology To establish ways in which broad clinical and professional policies should be interpreted and be accountable for own professional actions and decisions. In collaboration with the Clinical Director, devise, develop, interpret and implement policies and service developments as required for Help for Psychology. In collaboration with the Clinical Director, develop psychological therapies provision and ensure clinical governance processes are in place and implemented within Help for Psychology To ensure supervision of core LD clinical and final year specialist placements for the University of East Anglia clinical psychology training course. To have delegated responsibility in conjunction with the Clinical Director and Operations Manager, for recruitment of clinical psychologists within Help for Psychology. 1.0 Clinical Duties 1.1 To exercise autonomous professional responsibility and be legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of professional practice, being guided by principles and broad occupational policies. 1.2 To provide clinical assessments drawing on advanced specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of a wide range of psychological procedures and evidence-based practices. 1.3 To provide psychological formulations, drawing on advanced specialist theoretical knowledge and experience. 1.4 To make appropriate clinical judgements, including where appropriate diagnoses, formulations and decisions involving unique and highly complex facts or situations presenting within Help for Psychology. 1.5 To prepare written reports following specialist assessment and supervise the reports of other clinicians within the team with regard to clinical quality and accuracy. 1.6 To contribute to long-term strategic planning meetings 1.7 To be responsible for ensuring the integrity and proper evaluation of psychological interventions applied by other professionals working under the post holders supervision and provide advice/consultancy where required. 2.0 Service Management and Development 2.1 To have delegated responsibility for, and to advise the Clinical Director regarding the provision, organisation, development and long-term strategic planning for Help for Psychology 2.2 To have delegated responsibility for professional leadership and management and deployment of all Clinical Psychologists within the team. Professional supervision (including caseload management.) Personal Appraisal and Development Reviews. Ensuring appropriate clinical supervision arrangements and attendance. Recruitment of further Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists 2.3 To be responsible for identifying service needs and priorities within Help for Psychology and informing the Clinical Director of developments and gaps in service. 2.4 Together with the Clinical Director to be responsible for developing, interpreting and implementing policies and service development strategies for the service for the defined area and within own clinical practice. 2.5 To be responsible for implementing Clinical Governance initiatives within Help for Psychology 2.6 To be responsible for keeping abreast of statutory and legislative developments, and adaptation of policies and practice in accordance with such developments as they apply to Help for Psychology
