Summary

A Vacancy at Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Theatres in King George Hospital for highly motivated and driven Registered Nurses/ Operating Department Practitioners with Scrub, Anaesthetic or Recovery experience. We are one of the 8 Trust in the entire NHS to be known as established Surgical Elective Hub. We offer the best training and development programme for our staff.
We are proud to offer pioneering cutting-edge technology having recently introduced the Da vinci robotic General, colorectal, upper GI, Urology, Gyanecology surgeries and stryker Orthopaedic robot for joint replacement surgeries in our department with 7 Operating Theatres.
We are proud to announce that, we will be opening 2 newly built ultra-modern operating Theatres in April 2024.
As a senior theatre practitioner, with experience in multiple specialities, you will assist in integrated clinical leadership to care for patients in the Operating Theatre environment to the highest possible standard and to develop practice with support from the Team Leader.
You will be a valuable member of our supportive theatre team. We encourage learning and have an experienced Education Team who are committed to support your ongoing professional and educational developments.

To provide integrated clinical leadership to a team of nurses within the department in order to care for patients in the Operating Theatre environment, to the highest possible standard and to develop practice with support from the Team Leader.

To assume responsibility for the operational management of staff and resources in the absence of the Team Leader, taking a lead in a specific aspect of operational management in the Theatre setting.

To act as a role model and create an environment that promotes excellence in Theatre nursing practice and empowers staff to develop high levels of clinical skills and autonomy.

To contribute to the effective day to day operations of the Operating Theatres by providing skilled assistance to all staff during the administration, maintenance and termination of general, regional or local anaesthetics and surgical interventions, by undertaking Scrub/Circulating or Recovery duties.

The post holder will manage the multi-disciplinary team in the routine daily planning of the operating theatre/recovery by:
• Ensuring prescribed care is implemented for patients in the Operating Theatre setting
• Ensure that patient care is non-discriminatory and non-prejudicial
• Ensure all care is delivered and within Trust and Theatres policies and procedures

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, was named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal in 2024.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
