Summary

CNC Machinist – Basildon

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Machinist to join a specialist engineering company based in Basildon. The business designs, manufactures, and builds high-performance race engines and bespoke precision components, supplying to elite-level motorsport including Indy Lights.

This is a hands-on role, requiring someone who can hit the ground running, with proven experience in programming, setting, and operating CNC milling machines.

Key Responsibilities

• Programming, setting, and operating CNC milling machines using Heidenhain controls.
• Working to tight tolerances to produce bespoke engine and precision components.
• Offline programming with HyperMILL (experience highly advantageous).
• Operating a variety of machines, including CNC lathes and manual equipment such as grinders.
• Ensuring all work meets quality and efficiency standards.
• Supporting a culture of continuous improvement within the workshop.

Candidate Requirements

• Strong background in CNC milling – programming, setting, and operating.
Heidenhain control experience essential; knowledge of HyperMILL desirable.
• Ability to work independently and from engineering drawings.
• Previous experience in motorsport, automotive, aerospace, or precision engineering preferred.
• Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a small, skilled team.

Hours & Benefits

40 hours per week, with overtime always available

• First 5 hours at flat rate, thereafter, paid at time and a quarter
• Flexible start and finish times (typical: 7–7:30am start, 4–4:30pm finish)

45-minute flexible lunch break
25 days holiday + 10 days sick pay

• Modern workshop with 8 CNC machines (6 mills, 2 lathes), plus manual machines
