You will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and comfort of patients while carrying out a range of diagnostics to support the healthcare team in delivering high-quality care. You will display compassion, empathy, have excellent communication skills and will be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Job description Physical Able to perform venous blood sampling collection to organisational and health and safety standards Performing blood pressure checks, including fitting 24hr blood pressure monitors fitting, removal and completing referrals where required Pulse and temperature checks Recording patient height and weight Urinalysis ECG recording Ear checks and syringing Spirometry and FeNo Diabetes physical checks including foot checks Vaccinations and IM injections in line with protocol and competencies NHS health checks Simple wound care Processing and management of laboratory samples Chaperoning patients Assisting in the performance of minor operations Raising awareness of health and well-being and lifestyle advice Communication and relationships To be able to use various methods of communications namely verbal, non-verbal and IT competently To communicate in a skilled and effective manner with patients, carers and colleagues To have excellent team working skills and to be able to work in partnership with other healthcare professionals To be able to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and good interpersonal skills To be able to communicate effectively with patients who may have communication difficulties namely, speech impairments, deaf, blind and patients who do not speak English as their first language To be flexible, reliable and organised To communicate effectively with external agencies Knowledge, training and experience Educated to NVQ level 2+ or equivalent Successful completion of in-house training including practical training i.e. phlebotomy Good clerical and organisational skills Able to demonstrate computer literacy Knowledge of clinical systems i.e. EMIS is desirable Analytical and judgement Make judgement involving facts / situations sometimes requiring analysis of information Provide workload and make appropriate level decisions such as when to escalate and ensure this is done in a timely manner. E.g. queries from patients and carers Planning and organisational Organise and prioritise preparation, running and closure of clinics Work flexibly to maintain cover within the service / organisation Maintain effective systems to ensure the service operates efficiently Responsibility for patient / client care Provide clinical advice within scope of practice and information to patients, carers, relatives or staff face to face, over the telephone or by other means Consistently treat others with courtesy and respect Responsibility for policy and service development implementation Responsible for ensuring that the organisational policies and procedures (including amendments and updates) are adhered to and implanted in own are of work Responsible for working within own limits in accordance with local and national training frameworks for HCAs Responsibilities for financial and physical resources Manage clinical stock / office stationery Take responsibility for equipment used by self and others Maintain records of equipment issued to patients i.e. 24hr blood pressure monitors Responsibilities for human resources (HR) Act as a buddy demonstrating own area of work to new or less experienced employees such as apprentices or volunteers Willingness and ability to provide peer supervision, observation and support Responsibilities for information resources Accurately enter data / process information utilising appropriate IT systems Transcribing / copy typing information provided by others Management of information either electronic or paper basis
