Summary
The Information Governance Team is part of Calderdale Council’s Legal Services and provides a comprehensive legal compliance, management and advisory service across the Council. It enforces the Council’s duties both as a Public Authority and a Data Controller with the requirements of the law in relation to the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR, and its records management policy. We provide a statutory service to the public to ensure that their rights under the legislation are met, and that the Council demonstrates Data Protection by Design as a key principle across its many services.
To continue the successful provision of our statutory services and ever-increasing demand from the public, the Information Governance team are looking to recruit a Senior Information Governance Officer to support with the timely and efficient delivery of our services. The role will be responsible for responding to (sometimes complex) requests for information in line with current legislation regarding the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, Data Protection Act and GDPR; to monitor, support and advise the team’s Information Governance Officers in handling requests; to action internal reviews of FOI and EIR requests and deal with complaints made under the provisions of the GDPR; and for providing appropriate advice and guidance to all other services within the Council to ensure the Council’s compliance with all relevant information legislation, policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in an Information Governance setting and have a sound working knowledge of the relevant legislation, which they can demonstrate and correctly apply. Experience of administrative processes and procedures and a proven ability to use standard IT packages are a requirement, together with excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to cope well with pressure and dealing with highly sensitive information in a confidential manner; have the ability to gather comprehensive information from different sources and the capability to understand and present it in a clear, well-structured and timely way; and be able to prioritise workloads in order to meet statutory deadlines, deliver results and provide excellent customer service.
