Summary

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.

In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based People Services Department.

This role is pro rata, so the salary you will be receiving is £16,508.59 per annum.

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

Technicians provide a high standard of technical and learning support in order to maintain a well prepared and realistic working environment. This role will be essential to the effective delivery of study programmes to young people and qualifications to adults..

SUBJECT AREAS COVERED

The Technician will be required to support sessions predominantly in the Fashion, Textiles and Print department but may be seconded to support the wider technical team across the School of Arts during exhibition and shows. They will need sound knowledge of up to date requirements of the industry and a strong understanding of the practical requirements of both fashion and print based disciplines.

They will also need to be able to support and prepare textile and fashion studio spaces as well as undertake equipment demonstrations and health and safety passports for Level 1, level 2 and Level 3 Art

In addition, technicians may be required to deliver sessions on Health and Safety and safe working practices as well as sessions aimed to support learners in exhibiting and presenting their work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● To develop and maintain a well prepared, realistic and safe working environment and develop the professional attitude of the students towards their work and give them every opportunity to practice and develop their skills.
● Support the efficient and effective running and development of all aspects of the curriculum, including comprehensive preparation of equipment and learning areas, demonstrating and supervising students working in the practical skills area.
● Carry out routine maintenance of facilities and ensure the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the learning areas in accordance with Health and Safety regulations
● To maintain an effective stock control system, the storage, ordering, receipt of deliveries and organisation of equipment and materials relevant to the area.
● To support the academic staff to ensure that all students using the workshop facilities receive an appropriate Health and Safety induction in the use of machinery and safe working practices.
● To assist with any other technical and/or support duties across the Department as may be required from time to time including preparation of open days/career events and to attend team meetings.
● To ensure the studios and equipment are accessible and maintained for Full Cost Recovery and Leisure courses

Essential Attainments

● A minimum level 3 qualification in relevant subject (Fashion, Textiles, Print)
● A GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.
● Previous experience of working within fashion, textiles and print in a support capacity.
● Awareness of Health and Safety regulations and experience of implementing H&S procedures.
● Experience in using and maintaining a range of appropriate equipment.
