Summary

Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy (Department of Engineering)

The role
The University of Exeter is seeking to make five appointments within the Department of Engineering as part of the Exeter Engineering 2030 strategy. The Department of Engineering is one of the few truly integrated engineering departments in the United Kingdom and world. It is also one of the largest departments in the University of Exeter, with this breadth and scale bringing about unique advantages. The University welcomes applications building on Exeter’s internationally-recognised research strengths and deliver our research and teaching strategies.
The positions available are focused on the following areas of research:
• Biomedical Engineering
• Chemical Engineering
• Robotics and Automation
• Smart Manufacturing and Advanced Materials Technology
• Water and Environmental Engineering

The University of Exeter has published its Strategy 2030 and as part of that, the Engineering department is focusing on the following strategic objectives: to deliver excellence in fundamental research, to drive translation of research into practical outcomes, to further develop industry engagement, to build long-term international partnerships, to actively support major initiatives, and to develop cross-faculty educational opportunities at all levels.
The Department of Engineering has recently embarked on an ambitious strategy – Exeter Engineering 2030. Our vision is to harness the power of engineering and innovation to create a sustainable and healthier future. The strategy is underpinned by significant investment in staff and facilities, and will build on our existing strengths and continue to develop emerging areas, contributing to the University’s Strategy 2030. Engineering currently has over 100 academic staff across our Exeter (Streatham) and Cornwall (Penryn) campuses. The current research themes and groups are described here.
To help us achieve our objectives we seek to appoint individuals with an interdisciplinary outlook and who will build upon our strengths, and bring together expertise in a range of complementary fields. The University of Exeter provides an excellent environment for interdisciplinary research, and Engineering has strong links to the Business School and Physics for example. We encourage proactive engagement with industry, business and community partners to enhance the impact of research and education and improve the employability of our students. We therefore particularly welcome applications from academic staff with strong connections and funded projects with industrial partners, as well as those who are involved in projects which deliver impact.
