We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Configuration Managers to join our dynamic DWP Digital team. In this key role, you’ll help design and develop Configuration Management services and tools that support some of the UK’s most vital digital platforms.

As part of the Configuration Management Team, you’ll play a central role in managing and evolving our Configuration Management Database (CMDB)—ensuring it provides accurate, reliable data.

You will be part of the team who own, manage, and set the direction for Configuration Management and CMDB utilisation. This is an incredibly important time for the Configuration Management team, supporting the strategic high-level digital programme of activity to ensure we have all relevant data in CMDB to underpin stakeholder requirement.

You’ll work on both day-to-day operations and long-term improvements, contributing to the delivery of our Configuration Management roadmap and supporting the ongoing needs of digital products and services across DWP.

You will provide technical support and assistance to infrastructure, IT Operations and transition projects you will be assisting in the delivery of a first-class service and maintaining consistent levels of capability as required by the organisation.

You will also be responsible for adherence to Configuration Management policy and standards governing and ensuring maintenance and integrity of Configuration Items (CIs), along with their attributes and relationships.

As a Level 1 Configuration Manager you will identify, track, control and report on configuration items and associated data. You will audit configuration management data to check for accuracy and address / recommend any corrective actions as may be necessary. You will follow existing Configuration Management plans and procedures, enhancing these as required. You will work with stakeholders to ensure that changes to plans and procedures are properly impacted and communicated so that configuration items and associated data are captured effectively.

The roles and responsibilities for this position include, but are not restricted to:

  • Enhance and apply processes, techniques and tools to capture, track, correct and report on configuration items and associated data.
  • Audit configuration management data to check for accuracy and address / recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure that users comply with identification standards for Configuration Items.
  • Use Configuration Management data to carry out impact assessment of changes and provide team approval for changes where applicable.
  • Verify implemented changes to protect against unauthorised change.
  • Update configuration item data as part of the implementation of an approved change.
  • Support the creation of formal baselines.
  • Work with stakeholders, managing their expectations and maintaining relationships.
  • Carry out routine housekeeping of the Configuration Management System.
  • Support continuous improvement of Configuration Management processes and procedures.
  • Identify risks and issues, escalating them via your manager or the relevant stakeholder as appropriate.
  • Perform agreed line management activities for any direct reports including promoting team-working and training.
