Summary

We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it—for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment. As an organisation, we strive to reflect the communities we serve and continue to build diversity throughout our workforce. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, regardless of race, sexual orientation, or religion.

This is an exciting development opportunity to support, shape and develop the Public Safety Risk Assessments, asset condition inspection and data management of the EA's Anglian Waterways.

We are looking for a committed Public Safety Risk Assessment (PSRA) assessor determined to deliver results on time and to the highest quality standards, assessing all Anglian Waterways assets & sites (e.g., lock sites, canoe portages, moorings, landing stages).

Your work will involve being out and about to assess and inspect Anglian Waterways structures and sites, including managing our asset database.

Public safety at our sites is paramount. As the Waterways Public Safety Assessor, you will:
• Enhance the PSRA assessment process to ensure consistency across navigations
• Deliver risk assessment and asset inspection programmes
• Share best practice and collaborate with asset assessors/managers
• Proactively utilise and lead on our asset management systems
• Liaise with Area and national PSRA Leads
• Contribute to Area local quality assurance/peer review programmes
• Monitor Key Performance Indicator reports, ensuring assessments and inspections are timely and of good quality
• Maintain your skills and continued professional development in public safety
• Provide public safety advice regarding the navigation

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. This may attract an additional payment, and full training and alternative working arrangements will be provided.

The team

The Waterways Assets team is responsible for managing 568 km of navigable waterways—collectively known as the Anglian Waterways including 65 locks and a marina. Our waterways support over 6,000 boats and play a vital role in the region’s recreational and environmental landscape.

The Environment Agency is committed to building a sustainable navigation business, as outlined in our corporate plan, ensuring that more people and wildlife benefit from healthier, better-connected waterways.

Experience/skills required

You will have good organisational skills with experience of data collection and an understanding of asset management (structural engineering is desirable but not essential). You will be comfortable working within a team and on your own.

You should:
• be comfortable using information technology and associated software especially Microsoft Office including Excel
• have Safety, Health & Environment experience
• be able to work/communicate with staff and our customers
• have a keenness to learn and develop
• hold a Full UK driving licence

The following skills and experience are highly desirable (but training is provided):
• PSRA Risk Assessor
• AIMS: OM experienced user
• T98 Visual Asset Inspector

You should have an enthusiasm to improve how we do things, championing efficiency and effectiveness, together with the ability to thrive in a changing, high freedom work environment.
