Summary
Role Purpose: To support the Practice in delivering high-quality patient care during agreed clinical sessions. The Locum GP will provide consultations, visits, and other routine clinical duties as required, in line with Practice policies and procedures. Accountability: During clinical sessions, the Locum GP is accountable to the Duty GP/Practice Lead and the Practice Partners for safe and effective patient care. Clinical Responsibilities During agreed sessions, the post-holder will undertake: Surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and home visits where required. Assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Development of care plans in consultation with patients, in line with Practice protocols. Provision of counselling, health education, and appropriate onward referrals. Clear and contemporaneous record-keeping to agreed standards. Prescribing in line with Practice formulary and national guidance. Issuing of prescriptions and completion of relevant paperwork during the session. Safe and timely handling of urgent queries arising during clinical sessions. Practice Responsibilities (Sessional) The Locum GP will: Work in accordance with Practice policies and procedures, including confidentiality, prescribing, data protection, safeguarding, health & safety, and infection control. Contribute to patient safety by identifying and escalating risks where appropriate. Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and members of the multidisciplinary team. Ensure all private work (e.g. reports, letters) undertaken during the session is appropriately managed in line with Practice policy. Confidentiality The post-holder must maintain patient, staff, and Practice confidentiality at all times, in line with statutory requirements and Practice policy. Health & Safety The post-holder is responsible for following health and safety procedures within the workplace and ensuring the safety of themselves and others during their sessions. Equality and Diversity The Locum GP will act in a way that recognises and respects the rights, privacy, dignity, and beliefs of patients, carers, and colleagues. Professional Requirements Maintain GMC registration, appraisal, and revalidation. Hold valid medical indemnity appropriate for locum GP work. Maintain own CPD in line with professional standards. Notes This is a locum engagement, not a salaried post. Duties are limited to those outlined above and undertaken during agreed clinical sessions. No obligation exists for ongoing practice management, audit, supervision, or service development unless separately agreed.
