A Vacancy at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Consultant Surgeon with a specialist interest in emergency and benign general surgery to join our expanding Same Day Emergency Care service.
The department is currently increasing the number of consultant appointments within this service to enable a more rapid turnover of patients requiring urgent care investigations. This will support early decision-making and ambulatory reviews in a ‘hot clinic’ setting, helping to reduce pressure on inpatient beds.
Supported by Advanced Nurse Practitioners and resident doctors, the successful applicant will lead a team, work collaboratively with the Emergency Department, and provide support to the on-call surgical team in theatres and on wards.
The unit is in its early stages and is set to expand further in response to the rising number of acute patient attendances at the Wexham site of Frimley Health Trust. We will offer support for developing specialist interests and early-years mentoring within the department.
A specialist interest in emergency surgery is a core requirement of this role. Additional interests such as endoscopy, day surgery, benign colorectal, and benign upper GI surgery will be encouraged.
The Trust will fully support the post-holder with appraisal and revalidation processes in line with GMC requirements.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· The post-holder will be expected to provide a week of same day emergency cover (SDEC) on a Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm on a 1 in 5 week basis.
· The post-holder will participate in a 1-in-14 week Emergency General Surgery on-call rota, running from Monday 8:00am to Friday 8:00am, as well as a separately scheduled 1-in-14 weekend on-call rota from Friday 8:00am to Monday 8:00am.
· The on-call rota is expected to change as further emergency surgeons are recruited. Future arrangements may involve less frequent week and weekend commitments, with the potential introduction of weekday overnight on-call cover from 18:00 to 08:00.
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is committed to being an inclusive and disability confident employer and has been awarded the Gold for the Armed Forces Employment Recognition Scheme. We provide first class development opportunities for all staff and have a wide range of professional, management and leadership, and clinical skills training available.
Here at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, we know how important it is to have a healthy work life balance; this benefits not only individuals but the patients we care for too.
We encourage applications from people who wish to work on a flexible basis, recognising that flexibility may mean a range of different working patterns and hours, we do our utmost to work with our staff to meet their needs and the needs of our service and its users.
