Summary
Biomedical Scientists are responsible for analysing samples to provide accurate, useful and timely laboratory information for detecting, diagnosing and monitoring disease states. They are also responsible for providing blood products that are safe and suitable for individual patients prescribed by authorised medical personnel. Biomedical Scientists are expected to work their core contracted hours within the 24 hour working arrangements in accordance with Agenda for Change. BMSs rotate between Haematology and Blood Transfusion. Rotation will vary depending upon service needs, individual areas of interest and ability. BMS staff are required to maintain their competency in all areas of their duties. Aspects of individual involvement may alter as competencies evolve over time.
