We’re looking for a compassionate, confident individual to support a 78-year-old gentleman living with dementia. He’s chatty, charming, sometimes a little eccentric—and very much in need of company and daily encouragement.

This is not just about tasks—he’s looking for a genuine companion who’ll go with his flow, appreciate his love of cricket and golf, and be someone he can talk to (which he loves to do!).

What You’ll Be Supporting With:
- Gentle companionship and meaningful conversation
- Light domestic help—tidying fridge and bin, changing bedding (with or alongside him)
- Tracking simple routines like ticking off days on a kitchen calendar
- Helping him feel oriented with time, particularly dates, and times of the day
- Encouraging ventilation to avoid smoking indoors
- Respectfully going along with his preferences while gently steering daily structure

You’d Be a Great Fit If You’re:
- A strong character with empathy and patience
- Open-minded
- Discreet, observant, and good at picking up on small changes
- Not afraid to laugh, listen, and let him lead the conversation
- This role starts small—but there’s potential for more hours as needs evolve. A candidate will be interviewed to ensure the right chemistry and fit.

Duties include:
- Administration
- Housekeeping
- Companionship

Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Creative

Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.

If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.

Please note: If you do not hear back within three weeks of applying, unfortunately your application has not been successful on this occasion.
