Are you passionate about helping families thrive? Do you have the skills and empathy to support parents through challenging times?

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate parenting Practitioner to join our Parenting Team. This vital role will support our parenting work, while also providing tailored 1-1 parenting interventions as part of our Intensive Family Support team within Family Wellbeing.


As a parenting practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering parenting programmes and providing 1-1 evidence-based parenting support to those families who need it most. We work across the whole of North Somerset and are responsible for supporting families with children 0-19 (26 SEN). You’ll work closely with both internal and external partners to ensure families receive coordinated, high-quality support that makes a real difference.

Key Responsibilities:
Deliver trauma informed, evidence-based parenting programmes and 1-1 support tailored to family's needs
Support Families to develop positive parenting strategies and strengthen parent child relationships
Work in collaboration with the intensive family Support Team to contribute to whole family plans.
Maintain accurate records and use evidence-based outcome measures to track progress.
Contribute to multi-agency meetings and share your expertise to influence best outcomes for children and families.
Complete accurate and up-to-date records in line with our recording policy using the Early Help System to complete assessments, plans with families and case recording.
Act as key worker/lead professional for families, attend meetings with the family, including Child Protection Conferences, Children in Care and Children in Need reviews as required.
Carry out the duties and responsibilities under a range of legislation

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Fixed Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
4+ days in the office
Spends most or all of their time in the office, due to nature of the work but can be for reasons such as unsuitable home working conditions or a desire for separation of home and work life.
The office remains a shared space with cultural encouragement for clear desk policies.

We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced in working directly with children, parents and families
Has training/knowledge of delivering evidence-based parenting groups
Understands the importance of routinely monitoring and measuring outcomes
Able to build trust and rapport with families facing a range of complex challenges
Be a strong communicator and team player with a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
Organised, reflective, open to learning and emotionally resilient

Essential Criteria:
A NVQ Level 3 or 4 in relevant child care qualifications or with a focus on work with children, families, social care or support work.
Significant relevant experience of working with children and families.
Some experience of acting as a lead professional or key worker for a child or family.
Experience of using IT systems (email, word processing & spreadsheet).
Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing
Holds a full Uk driving licence
Experience of delivering evidence-based parenting groups or 1-1 evidence based parenting interventions

Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of universal, statutory and voluntary services and their role in promoting the welfare of children, young people and their carers.
A Psychosocial Professions (formally CYPIAPT) qualification
