This is a great opportunity to grow your career in a collaborative, values driven organisation where you’ll work closely with experienced professionals and gain exposure to high-impact financial processes.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job.

We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.

Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keepcustomers at the heart of what we do.

Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

This is an exciting time to get involved; we are currently re-shaping what our team looks like for the future, making sure we are adding the most value to the Society.

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with a curious mind and the ability to motivate others to achieve complex and challenging goals.

What Will You Be Doing?

As the Society Financial Control Senior Specialist, you will support the Senior Lead in the delivery of key aspects of our financial reporting processes.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Deliver key aspects of the half-year and full-year statutory reporting processes, including the month-end close reporting process through liaison with key internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver key aspects of the documentation, implementation, and maintenance of the financial control framework with the Society Financial Reporting and Control team.
  • Drive efficiency and effectiveness of the function by supporting best practice.
  • Oversee the day to day workloads of the Society Financial Control Specialists.
  • Maintain an appropriate breadth and depth of industry knowledge and external networks to inform accounting interpretations and application, meaning that assurance provided is relevant and contextual.
  • Accountable for ongoing development of technical expertise and regulatory awareness to ensure compliance with all relevant requirements, supporting the delivery of good customer outcomes and fair value through informed financial reporting and assurance.

What Do We Need From You?

To be successful in this role you’ll need to be or have:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with demonstrable post qualification experience.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory reporting, technical accounting, particularly IFRS9 requirements, with the desire and ability to be the SME in these areas.
  • Experience of operating in a similar role. Financial Services experience would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Proficient in finance systems. Workday experience would be advantageous.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships both within the team and across the Society to achieve objectives.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to link operational activity to financial outcomes.
  • Strong communicator, able to explain complex accounting matters clearly and concisely.
  • Adaptable and proactive, with a drive to support change and deliver excellent outcomes.

What’s In It For You?

Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.

We have a range of other benefits available to you including;
