Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for the detailed job description of the role.

The Medicines Management Team at UHS are looking to recruit a dedicated and passionate Pharmacy Technician to join our team. We are looking at new ways to develop our service in the evolving NHS landscape and we are looking for someone to help drive this forward as part of our hard-working, patient focussed team.

This is an excellent opportunity for both qualified and experienced Pharmacy Technicians as well as those seeking to progress their career:
• If you are currently working at Band 4 level, we will fully support your development with structured training, education, and competency-based progression to Band 5.
• If you are already an experienced Pharmacy Technician, you may be appointed directly to a Band 5 role, where you can make an immediate impact and help shape the future of our service.

Whichever route you join us through, you’ll become part of a hard-working, supportive team committed to your personal and professional growth. We offer a wide range of vocational and formal training opportunities to help you become an outstanding Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

We are looking for someone who is able to:
• Complete accurate Medicines Reconciliation for patients across a variety of wards.
• Counsel patients on the safe use of their medicines to improve compliance.
• Order and supply medicines to patients in a timely manner.
• Support quality improvement and new initiatives to support patient outcomes and experience.

Within the pharmacy department, we pride ourselves on the development of our staff. For applicants who are not quite at Band 5 level, you will be supported to complete the pathway framework by collecting relevant evidence towards a set of core competencies. Once complete and signed off, your post will be upgraded to Band 5.
