Crynodeb

As Capability Planner you would be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Capability Management Plan (CMP) which sets the direction for the Space capability team as it develops Satellite Communications (SATCOM) and Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) capabilities over a thirty-year horizon. As these are some of Defence's most fundamental enabling capabilities this is an area where the outputs have truly strategic and long-lasting impacts across Defence. This requires the development of a high-level of knowledge of UK and Defence space strategy and how these capabilities deliver against overarching objectives for Defence across all warfighting domains as well as space itself. This will also involve working with colleagues across Strategic Command, the Front Line Commands, MOD Centre, and Partners across Government. Bringing all this together in a single coherent, deliverable plan is a key challenge.

As Capability Planner you would also be required to develop strong relationships across defence industry and academia to identify emerging and future technologies with the potential to support the delivery of Defence’s SATCOM and PNT requirements. You would work closely with the UK Strategic Command JHub innovation unit as well as UK Defence Innovation and others, to identify new innovative opportunities which can be developed to support Defence’s activity within the space domain.

You would lead the annual Capability Audit and ensure that its outcomes are factored into the team's plans as well as wider Defence capability plans. Through engagement with Defence Intelligence, you would ensure plans take into consideration and develop in accordance with the threat picture and the latest intelligence. You would also be involved in wider horizon scanning and/or war-gaming activity to identify priority areas of development, or key factors affecting the space domain.

The position has line management responsibility for one SO3 military officer, supporting this individual to build and maintain a network of relevant contacts within the space industry and across Defence, to deliver SATCOM and PNT requirements for Defence.

Remote working within this role is something that can be discussed at interview stages or with your future line manager if you are found successful.
