ABOUT THE TEMPLE AND ROLE:
Our client, Sanatan Dharm Hindu Temple Society, located at 56 Mason Road, Foleshill, Coventry, CV6 7FJ, is The Sanatan Dharm Hindu Temple, located in Coventry, stands as a spiritual and cultural cornerstone for the Hindu community in the region. This revered temple is dedicated to a diverse pantheon of Hindu deities, with a particular focus on Lord Ram, Goddess Durga, Lord Shiva, and several others. It serves not only as a sacred place of worship but also as a vibrant centre for spiritual growth, community bonding, and cultural preservation. The temple hosts daily prayers (aartis), traditional rituals, and religious ceremonies, providing devotees with the opportunity to engage in and deepen their spiritual practices. Major Hindu festivals such as Diwali, Navratri, Ram Navami, and Shivratri
are celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion, attracting devotees from across
Coventry and the surrounding areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct daily puja and aarti; perform havan (homa), vivah (marriage ceremonies), and other samskaras as required.
• Perform deities’ śṛṅgār/shangaar (dressing and ornamentation) and maintain altar cleanliness and sanctity.
• Deliver engaging talks (pravachan) on festivals and observances celebrated in the temple calendar.
• Provide pastoral support to devotees and assist with community events and education sessions.
• Coordinate with volunteers/trustees to ensure smooth running of temple activities and compliance with health & safety.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA :
The applicant must meet the essential criteria i. e. Priest must have the knowledge of bhagvad Gita, Ramayan, Mahabharata and Shiv puran. Should be able to speak in English to communicate with the young generation and other communities who can only understand English. Also, he should be able to do Daities dress/ shangaar, haven ceremony, and marriage ceremony. He should be able to address the congregation about various functions celebrated traditionally in the temple. Please only apply if you fulfil the above criteria.
SALARY RANGE: UK National Living/Minimum Wage (currently £12.21 per hour for ages 21+; statutory rates apply for younger workers; reviewed annually)
