Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced lecturer to play a pivotal role in the delivery of the MA Communication Design course at Winchester School of Arts. We are seeking a driven/motivated individual who is passionate about creative thinking, experimental design practices, systems thinking, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and a deep understanding of the critical role of design in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They should be proficient in both traditional and emerging visual technologies, leveraging these skills to drive sustainable, inclusive, and innovative design solutions that address global challenges.

Balancing teaching and research responsibilities, you will take the lead in the delivery and assessment of key communication design topics for the MA Communication Design programme. Additionally, you will be engaged in high-quality research that is aligned to your teaching and be supportive of the administrative tasks and student support associated with the programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

About You

You will be active in the broad area of communication design whilst also providing expertise and research capability to some of the following areas:

• Design thinking

• UX design

• Experimental Publishing

• Creative coding

• SMART design

• Immersive/Sensory experiences

• Collaborative provision

Knowledge of the interface of digital/smart technologies, interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative practice would be particularly advantageous, and compliment the Departments research and knowledge base.

You should have enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students, through workshops, lectures and seminars, and a keen interest in research-led teaching. You will demonstrate a defined research portfolio pertinent to the field, including burgeoning areas of interest; offer pathways to high quality research; contribution to postgraduate research supervision; and evidence engagement with research funding applications/projects and external research communities. The school welcomes high levels of research collaboration and a keenness for interdisciplinary work is an advantage.

Central to the position is teaching from diverse, inclusive perspectives, combined with building valuable industry relationships and providing creative insights that inspire students, strengthen the programme, and appeal to an expanding international cohort. We value real-world application, and you’ll work closely with industry partners to ensure our graduates are equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving sector.
