Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreter to join our Sensory Support Service within Adult Services. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that supports individuals who are deaf, deafened and have hearing loss (assessed by audiology); blind and have vision loss (registered by ophthalmology); deafblind.
As a BSL Interpreter, you will play a vital role in bridging communication between service users and professionals across health and social care settings. You’ll be part of a dynamic, person-centred team committed to accessibility and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Provide accurate, impartial, and confidential BSL/English interpretation for service users and professionals during meetings, assessments, home visits, case reviews and other interactions.
• Facilitate communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and Social Work Services staff, including Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and other multidisciplinary team members.
• Work with service users to understand their preferred communication method (BSL, lip reading, SSE, etc.) and tailor support accordingly.
• Support the Sensory Support Team’s commitment to accessibility, include person-centred service delivery.
• Contribute to case discussions and team meetings where communication support is essential.
• Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to confidentiality protocols in line with Glasgow City Council’s policies.
• Keep clear and accurate records of interpreting assignments and service delivery as required.
• Support outreach and awareness initiatives to improve access for Deaf communities.
Applicants must possess a relevant qualification in line with the requirements of registration with the Scottish Register of Language Professionals with the Deaf Community (SRLPDC) but considration will be given to applicants who are Trainee Interpreters - Level 3. Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.
