Summary


We have an exciting vacancy for a Paediatric Support Worker to work on the children's ward and on occasion support our Children's Emergency Department/Assessment area.

The role will involve working alongside the registered nursing staff in providing excellent care to children and young people aged 0-16 years. The key responsibility is to assist and support the Children’s nursing teams in the delivery of safe and effective within Children’s Ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit. The postholder will be responsible for the delivery of care to the patient and family, as delegated by the registered practitioner.
• To provide safe and effective care to the patient and family in the Children’s Ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit (as required).
• Implement and evaluate care planned by the registered practitioner and report any changes in the patient’s condition which may require a change in care planned.
• Assist with the hygiene needs of the patient in partnership with the parents and family.
• Assist with infant feeding in partnership with parents and family including breast feeding / tube feeding / bottle feeding / cup feeding
• Perform routine observations on patients, interpret results and inform the registered practitioner appropriately.
• Take a blood sample for the measurement of blood glucose, or ketones.
• Safely use appropriate equipment in the clinical area.
• Empower parents and families and provide education and health promotion.
• Support, encourage and prepare parents and families for discharge home.
• Act as an advocate for patient and their family.
• Base programmes of care on current research based practice.
• Formulate in conjunction with a Registered Practitioner a plan of care for the patient and amend accordingly.
• Handover care of patients both formally and informally.
• To undertake discharge planning and in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives support and assist with the planning and appropriate discharge of children.

If successful in this role there is a requirement that you will have an enhanced DBS - this will be paid for by the Trust and deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.

As this vacancy is within the division of Women's & Children's there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service, the cost of joining the update service is £13 per year and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust.
