We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled respiratory physiotherapist with proven experience in paediatrics, good communication and problem-solving skills, to join our team treating children with long term respiratory conditions.

The postholder will work alongside a team of experienced respiratory paediatric physiotherapists and extensive MDT, managing children with long term respiratory conditions. The post offers the opportunity to work in a variety of acute and community settings to cover inpatients, clinics, outpatients, home, community or school visits, both independently, and in conjunction with specialist teams.

The team provides a therapy service to children with a variety of chronic respiratory conditions including Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, Non-Cystic Fibrosis related Bronchiectasis, Difficult Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Neuromuscular and LTV.

You will be supported within the specialities by a B8a clinical specialist and B7 specialist Paediatric therapists allowing excellent opportunity for developing clinical and theoretical skills, service development, audits, teaching and research. You will work in a friendly, dynamic and proactive paediatric Therapy team over
40 wte, in conjunction with the wider Therapy services department of over 300 staff.

We provide a 7-day therapy service and work weekends and bank holidays, on a rota basis, including participating in our respiratory out of hours service (On-call) working across adults and paediatrics.

The key duties of this post are:
• Therapy assessment and treatment to children of all ages including adolescents with cardio-respiratory conditions, with a specific emphasis on children with CF/Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) and other long term respiratory conditions. This will include local clinics in Southampton and regional clinics throughout South-West England) and appointments via video consultation
• Physiotherapy input to the PCD diagnostic and MDT follow-up service, and includes history taking, PCD diagnostic procedures to both children and adults, managing the physiotherapy aspect of PCD care
• As a specialist centre for CF/ PCD, provide expert advice to hospitals across the UK, attend outreach clinics and work in conjunction with the other specialist centres.
• Develop and co-coordinate respiratory physiotherapy inpatient, outpatient and clinic services-providing assessment and treatment for a range of respiratory conditions including exercise testing, lung function, and classes where appropriate.
• Supervise, initiate and participate in clinical audit and evidence-based projects and implement changes within paediatric cardio-respiratory care, setting and monitoring standards of practice

Essential skills and experience needed for this post:
As well as the person specification we are also looking for the following skills and experience related to this specific post:

• Experienced Physiotherapist with a broad range of post-qualification respiratory experience
• Comprehensive experience within paediatrics.
• Experience at B6 or B7 level working in respiratory care
• Proven, documented experience in doing shifts within an acute respiratory on-call service, including intensive care, in both adults and children
• Clear expressed desire on your application to work at UHS therapy services and within paediatrics
• Excellent communication skills: to enable close working relationships being able to adapt their communication to meet the child’s, family, and MDT needs considering their age and development
• Be able to work with children with complex needs using different equipment and working in different positions and environments. This includes working on the floor, being water-confident in the hydrotherapy pool and therapeutically handling patients.
• Car driver, for working between hospital sites, home and school visits. Please note some clinics can necessitate overnight stays secondary to their location i.e Cornwall
