Summary

Key Areas of Responsibility: To provide the full range of nursing services including: Wound care management (including dopplers and compression bandaging, in line with current evidence-based guidelines and suture removal) Routine immunisations and vaccinations given under a Patient Group Direction (with additional paediatric vaccination certification an advantage) Cervical Screening Contraceptive pill checks / sexual health Undertake long term condition reviews with appropriate training (e.g. Asthma/COPD, Diabetes, CKD, Hypertension) To deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice and risk assessments to patients prior to travel including illnesses, vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection. Provide emergency care to patients as necessary and attend annual Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis training. Take ECGs if HCA unavailable. To liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.) To support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policies To understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriately Additionally, the candidate should be able to Undertake the collection, storage, and dispatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used, as per policy. Chaperoning and assisting, where appropriate. Assist in the provision of minor surgery if HCA unavailable. Assist in the implementation and management of appropriate health and safety and infection control policies, as defined in local and national polices. Contributes to management of medicines and vaccines as per policy. Monitor and ensure the safe storage, rotation, and disposal of medications. Take responsibility for and comply with existing drugs policies regarding administration and custody of medicines and be aware of legislation and NMC advisory documents. Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written) Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care. To delegate clinical responsibilities appropriately (ensuring safe practice and the task is within the scope of practice of the individual) Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate Take prompt and appropriate action on receipt of complaints as per GP Practice Policy and participate in investigation where required. Report and record all incidents according to GP Practice Policy taking appropriate action, as necessary. Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach, i.e. root cause analysis (RCA) To undertake continuing professional development undertaking training for specific clinical tasks as well as support and participate in shared learning within the practice. Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal conviction. Collaborate effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs. Effectively manage own time, workload, and resources. Communication: The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to: Communicate effectively with other team members. Communicate effectively with patients and carers. Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly. Contribution to the Implementation of Services: The post-holder will: Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance. Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work. Participate in audit where appropriate.
