Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time NHS sonographer appointment (2-days a week) to work in the Gynaecology Diagnostic and Outpatient Treatment Unit. The post-holder will perform routine gynaecological ultrasound examinations for patients with a wide range of presentations including pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, suspected fibroids, and family history of gynaecological cancer.
The post holder will work as a specialist diagnostic practitioner in gynaecology ultrasound and will be responsible for carrying out the appropriate diagnostic procedures to support delivery of both routine and subspecialty clinical services.
The applicant will work at UCLH only and will be based in the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing within the Gynaecology Diagnostic and Outpatient Treatment Unit.
The post holder will be expected to work flexibly, however, the standard rota will be sessions on Tuesday and Thursday.
The postholder will provide expert gynaecological and early pregnancy ultrasound services, delivering accurate, timely, and patient-centred care within a multidisciplinary team. They will assess referrals, select appropriate imaging protocols, perform high-quality scans, and produce clear, clinically relevant reports to support rapid diagnosis and treatment planning. The role requires excellent communication skills to explain procedures, discuss findings, and provide reassurance to patients and their families. The successful candidate will contribute to one-stop diagnostic clinics, ensuring efficient patient pathways and supporting operational targets. They will also play an active role in audit, quality assurance, service improvement, and the training of junior clinicians, maintaining the highest professional and technical standards at all times.
