This is a prisoner facing job based in an establishment in Wales.

Summary

The job holder will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to prisoners on available learning skills employment opportunities. Contributes to sentence planning and reducing reoffending.

This is a non-operational job with no line management or supervisory responsibilities. This role is non-rotational.

Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

• Provide a comprehensive Advice and Guidance process to prisoners within the establishment.
• Attend the Activity Allocation Board to monitor and prioritise activity allocation according to the individual needs of the prisoners.
• Promote education and training opportunities through the establishment.
• Assist Learning Skills Employment Management to ensure that prisoners are enrolled on the correct courses appropriate to their needs.
• Process open learning and Open University applications. Facilitate and advise on funding and complete attendant paperwork.
• Liaise with all work areas in the establishment to co- ordinate outstanding learning and skills inductions.
• Support the achievement of the Learning Skills Employment. Service Delivery Indicators through attendance at the discharge board and designated resettlement sessions.
• Research appropriate internal or external courses collating information on cost and entry criteria to provide information to prisoners.
• Assist and support prisoners, signpost them to appropriate education and training opportunities; internal and external.
• Monitor induction assessments and follow up as appropriate.
• Monitor and evaluate advice and guidance provision and produce a monthly report on performance and make recommendations for improvement.
• Liaise with colleagues in offender management to contribute to sentence planning.
• Maintain appropriate prisoner records, provide statistics and produce written reports.
• Contribute to the Incentives and Earned Privileges (IEP) system when required.
• Attend and actively contribute to team meetings and external meetings as required.
• Plan and facilitate meetings with mentors.
