As part of our Urgent and Emergency Care Update Programme, we have a unique opportunity for a senior pharmacist to lead the implementation of a new electronic prescribing solution within our Emergency Department.
The post presents an excellent opportunity to optimise all of your clinical expertise and to develop further leadership and specialist informatics skills. No previous informatics experience is needed, as full training will provided by our experienced clinical informatics team.
The role will be offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
The postholder will have the following responsibilities;
Lead the implementation of a new electronic prescribing system to support the transformation of clinical services in the emergency department.
Collaborative working with multidisciplinary clinical and digital teams
Ensuring the electronic prescribing system is developed in line with clinical digital safety standards.
Provide training and onboarding support for pharmacy teams, prescribers, and administrative staff
Collaborating with other organisations through participation in supplier user groups
Developing prescribing reports
Provision of clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Department
Championing the medicines optimisation and safety agenda
Participating in clinical audit and practice research
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, organised person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills working effectively under pressure, both alone and as part of a team

The post holder will:
· Lead the provision and development of an advanced level, highly specialist clinical pharmacy and medicines supply service to patients within an agreed specialty. The post holder will ensure that medicines use is high quality, safe, rational, cost effective, legal and accurate. They will be expected to work to the medicines optimisation standards for Wirral Hospital.
· Support the Lead Divisional Pharmacists and deputise in their absence when appropriate.
· Train and supervise less experienced pharmacists within the subspecialty.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for:
The leadership and proactive development of specialist clinical pharmacy services to patients within the agreed specialty.
· Providing highly specialist clinical pharmacy services to patients within the agreed specialty and developing services in line with appropriate national standards.
· Providing expert and highly specialised pharmaceutical information and advice to medical staff, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals and patients, both within the Trust and externally as appropriate.
· Providing clinical training, guidance, support and supervision of junior pharmacists, pre-registration trainees, other Pharmacy staff and other Trust staff as required.
· Promoting the medicines optimisation agenda by leading specific audit and research projects in the agreed specialty and provide support to others.
· Monitoring expenditure within the agreed specialty against drugs budget, identifying and implementing cost saving initiatives.
