Summary

We’re looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to join our small but high-performing Service Delivery team at the heart of Government. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-profile environment where your expertise will directly contribute to the security and resilience of the digital services used.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, inclusive, and forward-thinking team that values diverse perspectives and thrives on solving complex challenges. Your voice will be heard, your ideas welcomed, and your development supported through access to expert colleagues and tailored training opportunities.

This role reports to the Head of ICT Service Delivery and plays a key part in shaping and delivering our cyber security strategy. You’ll lead on designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security measures to protect our systems, networks, and data from evolving threats.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be trusted to:

  • Monitor and respond to security events and incidents, using your analytical skills to detect and mitigate threats swiftly.
  • Lead the continuous development of our SIEM solution and create effective playbooks to guide incident response.
  • Monitor and manage how the team works with critical security infrastructure, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and anti-malware tools.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new applications and services, ensuring alignment with our security policies.
  • Collaborate across teams to embed security best practices into the design and deployment of new technologies.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by tracking emerging threats and recommending proactive improvements.
  • Drive forward the continuous development of the SOC and CIR services
  • Contribute to strategic projects, working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver outcomes that matter.
  • Participate in an on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support and ensuring service continuity.
  • Take part in other ad hoc duties such as covering for the ICTS Support team, taking part in team or individual corporate projects.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who:

  • Has a strong technical background in cyber security, with hands-on experience in incident response, SIEM, and infrastructure protection.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making, especially under pressure.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment, building trusted relationships across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Is resilient and adaptable, able to manage competing priorities and deliver at pace.
  • Shows a commitment to continuous learning and development, both for themselves and others.

Like most businesses, we need to maintain and protect our services 24/7/365, therefore there will be a requirement to work out of hours at times. Where possible, this will be planned work but there will be a small number of unexpected times. Overtime is paid for out of hours work.

You will be a part of the team “out of hours” on-call rota for which an allowance will be paid. This rota includes weekday evenings and nights, weekends and public holidays.

There may be the occasional need to work at remote sites as part of this role. There may also be an opportunity for national or international travel depending on business needs that may include staying overnight for several days.

As part of your initial training, and to gain awareness of No10 business priorities you will spend time in the first three months of your role working with our IT Service Desk team. This will give you an insight into the services and support we provide to our users in No10.

The knowledge you build during this time will allow you to better support users when you go on to the out of hours on-call rota going forward.
