Summary


We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated, forward thinking Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist, who would be adopted by MacMillan, to work within the Specialist Palliative Care team.

The posts 1x 37.5 and 1x 22.5 hrs are predominantly a hospital based positions but is part of a team of specialist palliative care nurses covering the hospital and community seven days a week including bank holidays also supporting the community as staffing requires.

This service is part of the Community Division who provide a multitude of services within Bolton. Experience of working in community is not essential as the successful candidate will receive a full supportive induction when they join the Division and the team.

The post holder will be a proven team player with excellent communication and teaching skills with significant, relevant experience.

They will contribute to the provision of specialist palliative and end of life care to the people of Bolton with advanced life shortening disease, working autonomously and as part of a team.

They will deliver clinical interventions across care settings providing advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.

They will also promote advance care planning, management of complex end of life symptoms and patient and carer expectations whilst meeting the integrated care needs of the patient and preventing inappropriate admissions to hospital. In addition, they will be able to contribute to the development of services, teaching, audit and research.

Specialist Palliative Care services have been developed, over the years, in an integrated and collaborative manner between the hospital, community, and Bolton Hospice, reflecting excellent co-operation between the organisations and a patient centred whole-team approach.

Royal Bolton Hospital currently has approximately 600 inpatient beds, serving thepopulation of Bolton and others from neighbouring areas. It is one of the busiest hospitals in the NW for emergency admissions. It has a cancer unit, with close links to the Christie Hospital. It has an oncology unit providing clinics and chemotherapy, and has a developing Acute Oncology service.
