JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
An 88-year-old lady living in Sully requires a Personal Assistant to support her in her home. She was born in London to an Irish family and moved to Wales many years ago. She now lives with her youngest son and blind and elderly dog. Other family members, a daughter and older son are also actively involved in her life and while they live some distance away, regular contact is maintained.
Other interests include attending church (Catholic), theatre, art, music and reading newspapers to keep up to date with current affairs. She likes to attend galleries and exhibitions at National Museum Wales and other recognised art venues.
HOURS OF WORK
Minimum 2 days per week, up to 12 hours per day. Flexible scheduling can be discussed and there will be opportunity for additional hours if desired.
RATES OF PAY
£14.00 per hour
Mileage of 40p per mile
TASKS INVOLVED
To maintain her independence
Support with showering and dressing
Encouraged, to monitor and develop her fitness, focussed on ensuring she has continued good health and wellbeing to facilitate continued independence.
Continuing with a stimulating environment promoting her mental agility including enjoyable activities and stimulation to maintain this, such as listening to music and talks on subjects that interest her.
Maintaining her healthy diet and good hydration
Getting out and socialising with friends and wider groups with shared interests in the community.
Maximising quality of life
Household support at home, including any other reasonable task as requested
Supporting her effort to look her best, particularly when out of the house and receiving visitors. This requires some support to ensure that items are readily accessible and available.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
A forward-thinking person with initiative
Someone with a genuinely caring and compassionate nature
You must be able to provide reliable and consistent one-to-one support
Respect for confidentiality and working in the home
Be able to maintain good conversation
Car driver preferable, although access to own car is not essential
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid 4 weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.
The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK.
